Media Analytics
In addition to my work as a journalist, I have also pursued a major in Media Analytics, an up-and-coming field of study that deals with big data: what is it, how we can use it and why it matters in modern communications.
During my time at Elon, I've had the opportunity to work with clients, using my skills in the field to accomplish a variety of things.
For ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest), I used their social media and website data to make suggestions on how to increase sponsorship rates.
For the city of Las Vegas, my group and I used national wedding trends along with social media sentiment to suggest how the city can alleviate falling marriage rates through our plan: Why Knot Las Vegas
Alongside client work, I've created white papers and reports that explore a variety of topics using different methods of analysis and data collection. Below are some that standout:

Donde Estamos, Donde IremosInspired by my love for the city of Barcelona during my time abroad in the Fall of 2018, for my analytics capstone project I created a livability report made for Barcelona city council that could be used to understand today's city life and what can be done to improve living conditions in the modern world. Data was collected from disparate sources around the internet, loaded into and visualized using Tableau and then compiled into a written report that weaves them together to tell a compelling story of one of the world's most unique cities.

Esports: Revolutionizing the Super Bowl
Using a topic of my choice, I was tasked with a creating a white paper that incorporated the use of trend data into clean design and compelling storytelling with the focus of advising a certain industry. Using eSports as my topic, I created a white paper that advocated for the advancement of eSports as a defining new national sport and why companies should seek to advance with its growth. My favorite part of the assignment was being able to incorporate eSports language and culture into a typical industry white paper.
Gay Representations in American Media: A Case Study on Will and Grace
Tasked with creating an independent research project with a fellow student, our idea was to analyze gay representation and stereotyping in the classic LGBTQIA sitcom, Will and Grace. Using collocation analysis, a type of analysis that involves dissecting the relationship of words used in a sentence, we sought out to understand what connotation words like gay, man, Will, Jack and homosexual have in the series. Using the first seasons of both the original and the reboot, we were able to not only measure the connotations of these words but we were also able to understand the development of the series as a whole in its portrayal of its gay characters. This project was a favorite of mine because it allowed me to explore themes of sexuality in the scope of American media, something I hope to further explore through analytics.
